I personally think that the next big niche to be explored is small trucks again with a rethink on how they work. The new Ram700/Rampage concept are what I’m talking about. Very small, car like, but with high payloads and great mileage...and cheap.

At least one would hope it would shut people up about “small trucks aren’t small anymore...guuuuuuuuuh”

I’ll bet Ford could sell the crap out of a Transit Connect ute. VW could cut the back off a Golf and do the same.

Yeah, VW, Ford, Ram are all poised to be able to bring these to market relatively quickly.

The only issue is I want an old-school rwd/4wd body on frame version, not a car-based fwd ute. Though I would like to see a proper rwd ute too.

Imo, the ideal small truck is a 1st-gen S10 or Sonoma 4x4 extended cab, manual w/ 4.3 v6. Or even better, one of those with a v8 swap.

Use THAT as a concept starting point and modernize it.

I had a LUV once. It was awesome. One of the cars I miss most.
